Heroin is a type of drug that is used as a depressant, and it slows down the brain and the body at large. It is grouped in a group of drugs that are known as opioids that are manufactured from the opium poppy. Heroin has never been passed as a legal substance to use. Heroine quality can differ depending on the materials that the dealers have mixed with. The drug is either injected, smoked, or snorted.

Users experience several symptoms. They may experience dry mouth, flushed skin, respiratory infections, itching, vomiting or nausea, and running nose, among other signs and symptoms. Heroin can cause addiction to the user. Therefore, if an individual wants to quit using the drug or quit the addiction, there is a heroin addiction treatment that he or she undergoes so that he can be relieved.

There are several models used to treat heroin addiction. The first treatment model is inpatient treatment. The patients, in this case, are admitted to a health care facility. They will be monitored closely. The model provides a high level of care to the patient. The patients are also restricted from using the drug since the user will only undermine the recovery. The care will last for three to seven days. When the patient stabilizes, then they are advised to choose a heroin addiction treatment center of their choice.

The second model is outpatient treatment. In this case, the patient is not admitted to a health care facility. The client, in this case, can continue with daily schedules. This model will work effectively on a patient who has a sober home environment in that the people who surround him or her are not substance users. The clients attend counseling services, and they are also given attention to their recovery.

The other model is residential treatment. The model allows the patient to continue living on their premises. The caregiver will, in return, deliver therapy sessions in various methods. The methods could be a group or individual therapy, depending on what the patient chooses. In the residential treatment model, the therapy centers will specialize in one method.

One of the methods the short term treatment. The program will give a demanding short time span. The patients who take the short term residential centers will tend to live on site. They take part in activities that are related to recovery. The patient will detoxify at the care of specialized medical staff. In a long- term treatment, the patient could have critical symptoms. The patients live longer in these centers, and they will also receive the support that is not related to their addiction.
